I am Mia Venne! One of the creators of this website! I am currently in a physio class at Sir Francis Drake High School. My teacher assigned my partner and I a research project on something that was interesting. The topic that we chose was narcolepsy. The fact that people can randomly fall asleep any wear at any given moment in life grabbed my attention as well as Robyn's. Not only did we make this website describing Narcolepsy, but we made a 3-D model depicting this phenomenon by making a brain, and a close up of the hypothalamus. There were two different hypothalamus, a narcoleptic, a normal one. The difference between these two was the number of hypocertin cells. Overall, I had a great time making this project with Robyn because I learned a great deal about Narcolepsy, its symptoms, how it works, and some of the treatments.
I am Robyn Organ. I first heard about narcolepsy in the Mysterious Benedict Society series, where one of the protagonists experiences narcolepsy. Since then I have always wondered how it worked? Why I had never heard of it prior to that point? and why only certain people got narcolepsy while others remain perfectly healthy? This project really allowed me to fully delve into the answers to these questions and much more. I have always been extremely fascinated with the brain and the fact that it controls every thing that our body does. This was a wonderful opportunity to get to do research about this fascinating topic expanding my understanding about the brain and this disorder.
